(Texas Scorecard) – In what could be a significant move for South Texas, Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. has signed an order approving an election to determine the incorporation of Starbase, Texas, as an official city.
The order follows the successful submission of a petition for incorporation, which met all statutory requirements under Texas law.
Starbase, the home of SpaceX, has served as the primary launch site for Elon Musk’s space exploration company.
SpaceX first established its presence in Boca Chica in 2014, to create a world-class spaceport for testing and launching rockets. Since then, the area has evolved into a bustling hub for spaceflight, with Starship prototypes and missions regularly taking off from the site.
Shortly after winning re-election, President Donald Trump visited the site in November to watch a starship rocket launch.
“If the election passes, this will be the newest town in Cameron County since Los Indios in 1995. We look forward to seeing the outcome of this election,” stated Treviño.
The vote will take place during the General Election on Saturday, May 3.
Elon Musk took to X to share his enthusiasm, posting: “Starbase, Texas, will soon be an official new city.”
Gov. Greg Abbott congratulated Musk, stating, “Starbase, Texas is the future of America.”
