FIFA has officially announced a prize of $1 billion for the 2025 Club World Cup.
The prize money will be split among the 32 teams participating in the event, though FIFA has not confirmed how it will be distributed, per The Athletic.
The tournament is expected to generate roughly $2 billion in total revenue, per ESPN. This means that FIFA reserves will not be touched, and some of the revenue can be used to help support club football in other parts of the globe.
Ticket and hospitality sales are expected to generate $500 million of revenue through the 63 games that will take place across 12 cities in the U.S., reported The Associated Press.
This tournament is the first of its kind and will help set the stage for the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
Teams participating in this tournament qualified through years of consistent winning in the continental club championships, which ran until the end of the 2024 season, per AP.
“The FIFA Club World Cup will not only be the pinnacle of club football, but also a vivid demonstration of solidarity that will benefit clubs at large to a scale that no other competition has ever done,” wrote FIFA President Gianni Infantino in a statement, according to MLS Soccer.
This news about the $1 billion in prize money comes shortly after FIFA confirmed that Dallas will serve as the international broadcast center for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the events taking place at the Kay Bailey Convention Center, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
Dallas is expected to host nine games during the 2026 World Cup, the most of the 16 cities that will host games.
The Dallas City Council has begun preparations for this worldwide event by approving a planning agreement with the North Texas FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee, as reported by DX.
This agreement will allow the nonprofit organizing committee to apply for state funding to help prepare for this tournament, which is expected to draw millions of fans from around the world to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
