NFL free agency has officially kicked off with the “legal tampering” portion of the offseason, where teams around the league begin to negotiate deals with free agents to improve their rosters.

Multiple players have already received contracts worth more than $75 million as teams look to lock in key players for the foreseeable future.

Unsurprisingly, the Cowboys have not made a single move to sign a free agent away from another team.

The franchise instead focused on signing long-snapper Trent Sieg to a 3-year contract worth $4.45 million that includes $3.1M guaranteed, according to Adam Schefter.

Dallas also signed special teams players Markquese Bell to a multi-year extension and C.J. Goodwin to a one-year contract, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

Bell and Goodwin have spent the majority of their careers with the Cowboys on special teams, but both could be relied upon to play key roles on defense during the 2025 season.

While Dallas has focused on improving the special teams, other teams have focused on signing impactful players on offense and defense.

Other teams are also making additions, including poaching two Cowboys free agents: cornerback Jourdan Lewis and offensive tackle Chuma Edoga, who both signed contracts with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Lewis signed a contract worth $30 million over three seasons, with $20 million fully guaranteed, according to Sleeper Cowboys. This makes him the highest-paid nickel cornerback in the NFL.

The full details of the contract Edoga agreed to with Jacksonville have not been released.

Despite Dallas opting against participating in free agency to this point, the team has shown interest in signing linebacker Dre Greenlaw to a contract, according to Josina Anderson.

Dallas has not been discussed as a landing spot for many other free agents, though the team likely pursues players who are looking for smaller and shorter contracts.

Dallas’ lack of moves should not come as a surprise, as Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones previously reported by DX that he was “not looking at free agency as a place to fill voids. ”

Now, the team will enter the next few days with even more voids than initially expected.

The Cowboys’ biggest needs are at cornerback and wide receiver. The team features very few players at each position who can be relied on heading into the 2025 season.
