Three HEB ISD schools in the Euless area were evacuated Wednesday after a bomb threat was made against the District Alternative Education Program campus.
The threat prompted a swift response from local law enforcement, who are conducting an ongoing investigation.
According to a statement from the Euless Fire Department, the threat led to the evacuation of the DEAP campus, the KEYS Learning Center, and the nearby Central Junior High School. The Euless Fire Department assisted with the evacuation efforts to ensure the safety of students and staff members.
Roughly 1,200 students were transported to the HEB ISD Administration Building located at 1849 Central Drive, Bedford, to be reunited with their parents. Parents and guardians were instructed to bring a photo ID with them to pick up their children, per Fox 4 KDFW.
“We are using a multi-check process to ensure student safety throughout reunification: parents and students are both verified before the student moves from one location to another, and we verify the pair before the student is released with the parent. It is normal for a secure reunification process to take time, especially with the number of students involved today,” the district posted in a March 5 online update.
“To help speed up the movement of the line, we have brought more tables, staff, and computers – this has let us triple the number of stations to verify parents and guardians since we began today’s reunification process.”
Teachers and staff members remained with the students to ensure their safety and supervision.
All three campuses have since been declared safe by officials, per WFAA.
