69% of Local Candidates Dodge Election Survey

The Dallas Express sent candidate questionnaires to candidates for every office in Dallas and Collin counties earlier this year.

More than 70% have not yet responded, declining the opportunity to present their views to voters in advance of the May 6 election.

In four races for mayor — Addison, Balch Springs, Celina, and Richardson — neither candidate returned The Dallas Express’ questionnaire.

Ordinarily, candidates want to have their positions known to differentiate them from opponents and increase name ID.

The media plays a vital role in informing voters about upcoming elections. The lack of participation draws questions about the candidates declining to respond to simple prompts about priorities for the position they seek. Why would they decline to have their words, verbatim, available for potential voters?

“The turnout for local elections is historically both low and less representative of community demographics. Across the U.S., only 15 to 27 percent of eligible voters cast a ballot in their local elections,” the National Civic League wrote

Voter turnout historically is low in off years, such as the 2019 November election. Only 126,511 voters (9.6%) turned out in Dallas County, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s office.

In the May 2019 election for Dallas mayor, 80,825 voters turned in ballots, leading to a runoff.

In the June 2019 runoff, when current Mayor Eric Johnson defeated Scott Griggs, 74,106 voted — 41,208 (55.6%) for Johnson.

Here is a list of candidates who have not responded as of Monday, May 1.

I am not surprised that Paul Ridley has not replied, District 14. He is quite busy doing nothing and not addressing district issues. His office is friendly and eager when I call, but no reply, no action.

This proves who thee people really are- Too busy to answer an election questionnaire that would give them FREE publicity, THEREFORE too busy to work on the needs of the public at all and probably too much to hide.

Yes, yes it is. But the people who run this rag think they are doing fair reporting and then cry when the reality sets in that this organization is newsmax light.

Reputation? Here you are posting and obviously reading the articles.
Maybe these folks are afraid of the truth. Look at where Dallas is today as opposed to where it was just 10 years ago. Nice Try!

The democrats don’t want to be pinned down on their ideology. Squishy republicans, the same. Trump told voters exactly what he was going to do and for the most part he did what he said he was going to do. Most politicians are re-elected bc of name recognition, having very little to do with what they accomplished. Most voters do no research and just believe the MSM. TERM LIMITS!!!!

I have zero doubt this headline was written before the surveys were sent, just needed a placeholder for the number.

What the lack of response really means is 98% of people in DFW aren’t falling for your Fox News like hijynx.

The “people’s paper” panders to silly whites who don’t live in reality and enjoy comfort news (see echo chamber.)

And typical of most liberal leaning people, you throw out lots of insults and emotion, with no real objective facts.

Quite frankly, if I was running, especially as a moderate candidate, there’s NO WAY IN HELL I would respond to any questionnaire from Dallas Express! Why would any non-partisan candidate respond to a partisan media outlet? Read the room!

I know when I sent out the candidate questionnaire for True Texas Project Dallas County, I didn’t get much of a response either. The candidates don’t want to be held accountable. We as citizens must be active and take back our government and make it accountable to we the people.

True Texas Project was labeled an antigovernment group; why would a candidate respond?  That’d be like a Muslim going to a Catholic confession.

Monica R. Alonzo and Omar Narvaez were among those candidates at a very recent openforum sponsored by The Dallas Examiner.
In previous weeks, some other Dallas City Council members and their opposition candidates were at the forums.
