North Texans are going to get to take another stab at the Mega Millions jackpot after no tickets won the grand prize on Friday, with the winnings pool swelling to $820 million ahead of Tuesday’s drawing.
Aspiring multimillionaires with $2 to spare can play the Mega Millions lottery by picking five numbers ranging between one and 70 and a sixth number — the gold Mega Ball — ranging from one to 25.
Nine different prizes can be won based on how many of the six balls players guess correctly. The smallest prize is $2 for correctly guessing the Mega Ball.
The numbers for last Friday’s drawing were 29, 40, 47, 50, and 57, with a gold Mega Ball of 25, according to Mega Millions.
Eight tickets matched all five white balls to win the second-tier prize of $1 million, per a press release issued by Mega Millions. Another 67 tickets matched four white balls and the Mega Ball, granting those players the third-tier prize of $10,000.
In total, Friday’s drawing produced 2,485,688 winning tickets.
The chances of winning the game’s jackpot are incredibly low. Mega Millions states the odds are just one in 302.5 million. The odds of winning $1 million are also very low, with just a one in 12.6 million chance to win.
Beating the odds, a Texas resident won the $1 million prize during a drawing on June 30, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
The growth of the current jackpot can be correlated to the lack of a winner, as Tuesday marks the 28th consecutive drawing since the grand prize was last won on April 18.
If won on Tuesday, the $820 million jackpot would be the fifth largest jackpot in the history of Mega Millions. The largest to date was won on October 23, 2018, and was worth about $1.54 billion, according to Mega Millions’ press release.
Tickets for the game can be bought for $2 each in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings for the numbers are conducted every Tuesday and Friday night starting at 10 p.m. CT.
