“S’moresapalooza” in North Texas, held this past weekend, turned out to be a record-breaking event.
Participants set the Guinness World Record for the most people making s’mores at the same time.
The final tally: 891 people were involved in making marshmallow and graham cracker treats simultaneously.
Honey Maid, Jet-Puffed, and local company Solo Stove sponsored the attempt at the Chicken N PIckle location in Grapevine, just ahead of National S’mores Day on August 10.
Grapevine-based Solo Stove designs and sells outdoor fire pits. The company’s Mesa fire pit was used in the s’mores challenge.
“National S’mores Day is a very important holiday for Solo Stove, and each year, we look for bigger and better ways to honor this delicious holiday,” said Tyler DiGiovanni, director of partnerships at Solo Stove, according to WFAA.
“This year, we decided that setting a Guinness World Record would not only officially put the Solo Stove name next to ‘s’mores’ in the history books, but it would also be a great way to gather our local community around a campfire.”
Volunteers broke the record on Saturday using 500 tabletop fire pits spread over 25 areas at Chicken N Pickle.
The previous record of 801 was set by the Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee/Williamson County in August 2018. The troops were celebrating National S’mores Day to teach the Girl Scouts about fire safety.
DiGiovanni said Solo Stove felt “bad” about taking the record from the Girl Scouts, adding that he would invite some local members from Grand Prairie to the event, D Magazine reported.
The rules were simple. For a s’more to count toward the record, participants had to be at least 12 years old, make their own s’more without assistance, and eat the entire treat, according to D Magazine.
Solo Stove applied for the permit to beat the world record in 2021. The company had to fly out an official Guinness adjudicator for the event.
Maxi Kleber of the Dallas Mavericks was on hand at S’moresapalooza. The forward signed autographs, took pictures, and played pickleball with those in attendance.
Another world record was broken in Dallas-Fort Worth in July 2022 when Panther City BBQ pit masters Chris Magallanes and Ernest Morales grilled continuously for 42 hours, setting the record for the longest barbecue marathon by a team, PaperCity reported.
