A resident in California has hit the jackpot in Powerball, winning over $1 billion.

The lucky numbers for these winnings were revealed in the last drawing on Wednesday.

Monday’s Powerball drawing was for an estimated $922 million, with an estimated cash value option of $476.5 million. The winning numbers were 5, 8, 9, 17, and 41. The Powerball number was 21.

No winning tickets were sold for that drawing, but two North Texans were among three Match 5 winners. Each won $1 million, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

The Powerball jackpot continued to grow, with Wednesday’s potential winnings swelling to an estimated $1.08 billion, the third largest in Powerball history and the sixth largest in U.S. history, according to NBC 5 DFW.

Wednesday finally saw a winning ticket purchased from Las Palmitas Mini Market in Los Angeles, California, according to the state’s lottery website. The winning numbers in this drawing were 7, 13, 10, 24, 11, and red Powerball 24, with a x2 Power Play.

The World Population Review documented the number of Powerball winners across the United States, Washington, D.C., the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. As of April, the state of Indiana leads the nation in Powerball winners with 39, followed by Missouri, which has had 31.

Texas has only had two winners. Of the 44 states participating in this particular lottery game, only Maine, Mississippi, North Dakota, and Wyoming have never sold a winning Powerball ticket.

According to NBC 5, the largest lottery jackpot in history was a Powerball hit worth $2.04 billion. The ticket was sold in November 2022, also in California. The second-highest bank involved three Powerball winners who split $1.586 billion. The winning tickets were sold in Florida, Tennessee, and California.

Winners can elect to receive their payout in 30 yearly increments of the current estimated value or one lump-sum payment. The latter option for the upcoming winnings is worth roughly $516.8 million.

On its website, Powerball says that the probability of winning any prize is one in 24.87, and the odds of willing the grand prize are one in 292,201,338. Most recent winners in Texas had a one in 11,688,053.52 chance of having a winning ticket.

Powerball is a lottery game played in 44 states, Washington, D.C., the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. The game costs $2, and drawings occur on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
