Former President Donald Trump decried his indictment by a grand jury in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, calling the charges against him a bid to interfere in the upcoming presidential election.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Trump was hit with four counts related to his actions following the 2020 election and the events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, when he allegedly urged his supporters to protest congressional certification of the Electoral College vote.

“I hear that Deranged Jack Smith, in order to interfere with the Presidential Election of 2024, will be putting out yet another Fake Indictment of your favorite President, me, at 5:00 P.M. Why didn’t they do this 2.5 years ago?” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account, minutes before news of the indictment became public.

“Why did they wait so long? Because they wanted to put it right in the middle of my campaign. Prosecutorial Misconduct!”

Trump was charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.

According to the 45-page indictment, the former president allegedly “did knowingly combine, conspire, confederate, and agree with co-conspirators, known and unknown to the Grand Jury, to defraud the United States by using dishonesty, fraud, and deceit to impair, obstruct, and defeat the lawful federal government by which the results of the presidential election are collected, counted, and certified by the federal government.”

Trump also suggested that the timing of the indictment was intended to deflect attention from President Joe Biden’s own ongoing scandals:

“Also, why are they putting out another Fake Indictment the day after the Crooked Joe Biden SCANDAL, one of the biggest in American history, broke out in the Halls of Congress??? A Nation In Decline!”

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Devon Archer — a former business partner and personal friend of Hunter Biden’s — testified before the House Oversight Committee on Monday, telling committee members that the president was directly aware and included in many of his son’s business dealings.

“Devon Archer’s testimony today confirms Joe Biden lied to the American people when he said he had no knowledge about his son’s business dealings and was not involved. Joe Biden was ‘the brand’ that his son sold around the world to enrich the Biden family. When Joe Biden was Vice President of the United States, he joined Hunter Biden’s dinners with his foreign business associates in person or by speakerphone over 20 times,” declared Rep. James Comer (R-KY) in a statement.
