Dallas Cowboys fans are apparently the most superstitious in the NFL.
According to a survey conducted by Casino.org that analyzed fanbases across the major sports leagues (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, and MLS) by talking to more than 3,000 fans across North America, the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Lakers are tied for the “Most Superstitious” fanbases across the five leagues.
“Not only do these teams inspire their fans’ rituals, but star players like the Cowboys’ Dak Prescott and the Lakers’ Lebron James also have their own unique routines, such as wearing specific clothing items or performing trademark gestures like the powder toss,” the website reads.
The fanbases of the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers came in third and fourth.
Other top 10 superstitious fanbases, some of which tied, included the New York Yankees, Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Braves, Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics, Kansas City Chiefs, Toronto Maple Leafs, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, and New York Giants.
The Dallas Mavericks were ranked the seventh most superstitious in the NBA and 18th overall, while FC Dallas came in 10th among MLS teams and the Dallas Stars came in sixth in the NHL. According to Casino.org, there was not enough data provided for the Texas Rangers to make the MLB list.
The survey also ranked the superstition levels of the different leagues’ fans overall. The NFL was the most superstitious, followed by the NBA, MLB, NHL, and MLS, respectively.
The most common superstitions were wearing certain colors, lucky clothing, and watching the game at particular places.
