University of Colorado Boulder head football coach Deion Sanders underwent additional surgery related to the blood clots in his legs on Thursday.
The procedure was the second Sanders has undergone in the past month, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
Sanders’ girlfriend, Tracey Edmonds, took to social media on Friday to declare the most recent procedure was successful. He got clots in his right leg treated, and doctors readjusted the toes on his left foot.
“Thank you Lord for another successful surgery!! We thank you for giving #CoachPrime Deion Sanders the strength to fight these challenges and we have Faith that you will give him the VICTORY!” Edmonds wrote, according to Bleacher Report. “We are so GRATEFUL for all the doctors, nurses, and staff who have blessed him on his road to recovery! And we thank ALL OF YOU for your BEAUTIFUL prayers! They bring tears to my eyes when I read them and they fill us with HOPE and STRENGTH! God bless all of you!”
Less than a month ago, the Pro Football Hall of Famer and former Dallas Cowboy underwent an operation to repair blockages in his thighs and near his knees as doctors began to reopen the vessels in hopes of further addressing other blockages within his limbs.
On Wednesday, Sanders disclosed that he would follow his doctor’s recommendations for the additional procedure. “Unfortunately,” he wrote on his Instagram account, “this means I will not be in attendance of Pac-12 media day BUT this will ensure I am back on my feet for the start of fall camp. Good day and God bless #CoachPrime.”
Defensive coordinator Charles Kelly replaced Sanders at media day in Las Vegas, joining Shedeur Sanders — Deion’s son and the Buffaloes’ assumed starting quarterback — and Jackson State transfer Travis Hunter as the team’s representatives.
“I know his number one thing is to be able to get back so he can lead these players in the fall,” Kelly told the media when asked about the head coach on Friday. “He asked me to do this. This was a big honor for me. We’re here, but he’s doing great. You can bet once fall camp gets here, he’ll be ready to go.”
According to ESPN, Thursday’s procedure was a “routine follow-up,” and Coach Prime has vowed to be back in time for the Buffaloes’ season opener at TCU on September 2.
