Gov. Jim Pillen of Nebraska is deploying a small contingent of Nebraska state troopers to the Texas southern border after meeting with Gov. Greg Abbott last week to discuss border security.

Ten state troopers have been ordered to deploy for a period of two weeks. Their primary function will be to operate surveillance drones in support of existing border enforcement.

Pillen issued a press release blaming the ongoing unlawful migration crisis on President Joe Biden’s decision to end Title 42, a COVID-era regulation that functioned as one of the few powers law enforcement officials had allowing for detention and speedy deportation, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

“Our nation has a serious and unchecked threat on its hands following President Biden’s decision to end Title 42. Nebraska is committed to using every tool in its tool box to help stop the influx of illegal immigration at our southern border. Illegal immigration hurts our nation’s security, undermines the rule of law, and threatens the wellbeing of our state,” Pillen said.

Col. John Bolduc, the superintendent of Nebraska State Patrol, also provided a statement in the press release, applauding Pillen’s decision and announcing that his troopers are eager to join enforcement operations at the border.

“Our team of drone operators will provide valuable assistance to our law enforcement partners in Texas as they work to keep communities safe at the border. Our team is eager to join troopers from several other states answering Texas’ call for assistance,” Bolduc said.

Abbott praised Pillen’s decision on Twitter, thanking the Nebraska Governor personally.

“Thank you Gov. Pillen for stepping up to help support Texas’ response to Biden’s border crisis,” Abbott tweeted.

Nebraska is the latest state to send law enforcement personnel to Texas to assist Operation Lone Star. Tennessee, Idaho, and Florida have also sent contingents, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

Abbott has made securing the southern border a top priority of his third term as governor of Texas. Still, record numbers of unlawful migrants continue to overwhelm state and federal law enforcement protecting border communities in Texas.
