The Eastland County Sheriff’s Office lost one of its own on Friday.
Deputy David Bosecker was shot while responding to reports of a domestic dispute at a residence off Highway 183 between Cisco and Rising Star on July 21 at approximately 9 p.m.
“As he arrived on the scene a male subject opened fire on him, fatally wounding him,” the Officer Down Memorial Page for Bosecker read.
The suspect identified as 42-year-old Cody Douglas Pritchard was arrested by officers who arrived on scene shortly thereafter. He has been charged with capital murder of a peace officer and is currently being held in Stephens County Jail, according to ABC 12 KSAT.
Bosecker was a highly respected law enforcement professional with a career spanning over two decades.
His illustrious journey began in Wise County as a deputy. Over the years, he took positions with several other public agencies, including the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department as a game warden.
Bosecker also served as an officer for the Comanche Police Department and part-time as a marine enforcement officer for the Cisco Police Department.
News of Bosecker’s death in the line of duty struck a chord in the heart of the law enforcement community.
The Fort Worth Police Department shared its sympathies on Twitter this past Saturday, asking the public to “keep Deputy Bosecker’s family, friends, the community, and the Eastland County Sheriff’s Office in your thoughts.”
Fort Worth is located an hour and a half east of where the shooting took place. The city has implemented a dedicated police unit to patrol its downtown area, which reportedly helps lower crime rates and exposes the neighborhood to far less crime than residents see in Downtown Dallas.
Dallas, meanwhile, has seen a year-over-year uptick of 8.4% in homicides as of July 17. The Dallas Police Department is also currently facing an officer shortage, with approximately 3,100 officers despite a City analysis recommending 4,000 based on population size.
