Dallas police have released video footage of the Monday morning shooting that left one dead at a 7-Eleven convenience store in North Oak Cliff.

The Dallas Police Department received a call about the shooting around 6 a.m. on Monday. Officers found 54-year-old Nathaniel Ogbolu shot, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. Ogbolu was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Police said the gunman “entered the store and pointed a gun at the victim, and demanded money from the register.”

Before Ogbolu could open the register and retrieve any money, the suspect shot him, police report. They added that the suspect then fired at a witness who was also inside the convenience store but missed.

In the video, which begins after the shootings, the gunman can be seen grabbing a black bag from the counter and then walking behind the counter and checking the registers for money.

The suspect wore a white hoodie with a black stripe, dark pants, black and white shoes, and a mask.

It is unclear whether anything was stolen from the store, but the suspect quickly fled the scene on foot.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective David Grubbs at 214-671-3675 or email [email protected].

The incident took place in District 1, which is represented by Dallas City Council Member Chad West.

Dallas’ public-facing data platforms are currently experiencing a “service outage” apparently caused by a ransomware attack against the City that is hindering updates to statistics. However, the Dallas Police Department’s crime analytics dashboard had documented 3,078 instances of aggravated assault and 126 murders year-to-date by the end of April.

Compounding the problem is DPD’s shortage of officers. Mike Mata, president of the Dallas Police Association, has said the department is roughly 400-500 officers shy of what is needed to manage crime.

Downtown Dallas is one area of the city that especially struggles with crime, though last fall a dedicated police unit was created for Deep Ellum. As for other city centers, Fort Worth uses such a unit alongside private security guards, and the Houston Police Department maintains a unit called the Downtown Division.
