Officials from Texas A&M University reported last week that a new campus is slated to begin construction next month in downtown Fort Worth.

On May 18, the school announced through a news release that its board of regents had approved the $150 million project for a new campus featuring an eight-story building dedicated to A&M’s School of Law.

Officials began eyeing the property located along four blocks of Commerce Street in southeastern downtown Fort Worth back in 2021, according to a news release.

This exciting endeavor for the institution and the city aims to establish a research hub anchored by three high-rise buildings set to open in 2027.

While the Law and Education Building will be the first facility built, a second Research and Innovation Building and a third Gateway Building for offices and a conference center are in the pipeline.

“Our goal is to spur business and job growth in one of the nation’s fastest-growing cities and throughout North Texas,” said John Sharp, chancellor of Texas A&M, per a news release. “This is a gamechanger for everyone involved.”

Indeed, school officials are not alone in driving the project dedicated to further education, research, and collaboration between businesses and Texas A&M research departments.

Funds from the city of Fort Worth, Tarrant County, and the private sector are involved in seeing this campus boasting state-of-the-art facilities come to life.

“A top-10 public research institution ensures Fort Worth’s future is rooted in the next economy driven by an educated workforce, whether it be lawyers, engineers, health care professionals or technology workers whose jobs don’t even exist today,” Sharp said, per a news release.

As The Dallas Express reported, Texas A&M’s College of Education and Human Development was ranked second in Texas graduate programs by the U.S. News and World Report. Its law school came in at No.29 nationwide, with its programs in dispute resolution and intellectual property law receiving top scores.

The Canadian engineering firm Stantec will design the new Law and Education Building along with Connecticut-based architect Pelli Clarke & Partners, according to the Fort Worth Report.

Construction will be spearheaded by Dallas-based CARCON Industries, Fort Worth-based Source Building Group Inc, New York-based Turner Construction Company, and Dallas-based Dikita Enterprises.

The new campus is just one of many initiatives in North Texas aiming to make the region a top-tier destination for research and innovation.

As The Dallas Express reported, Pegasus Park, located in downtown Dallas is not only targeted for expansion but was also recently pitched to become a major biomedical research hub of the federal government.

It is currently home to Southern Methodist University’s Institute for Computational Biosciences, the University of Texas Southwestern’s bio hub, and the incubator BioLabs.
