Southlake Fire Department battled a three-alarm fire at a large residence on Tuesday afternoon.

The Southlake Department of Public Safety reported at 4:49 p.m. on August 8 that a “structure fire” had occurred at a residence on Enclave Court. Randol Mill Avenue between West Dove Road and Mockingbird Lane was closed while fire crews worked to contain the blaze.

Southlake fire chief Michael Starr told NBC 5 DFW that the local fire department had responded to the blaze at around 4 p.m. and that crews had noticed smoke emanating from the building.

“We know there was fire in the attic when we got here. We don’t know if it started in the wall and worked [its] way to the attic but definitely, the attic was heavily charred with we arrived on scene,” said Starr, according to NBC 5.

The fire quickly grew to cover a large portion of the structure and required the intervention of multiple crews to get it under control.

The flames left a large portion of the residence destroyed. Video of the scene shows the roof collapsing as firefighters try to put the fire out.

Starr said that fire personnel also had to contend with extreme heat as they battled the blaze, noting that they had to take breaks to mitigate the effects of heat exposure. Weather officials said triple-digit temperatures similar to those experienced in the past few weeks would persist through this week, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

“If it’s a smaller home and we don’t have the heat we have today, we would handle that normally with 5 or 6 fire trucks on scene. Basically when we go into something like this, we triple that,” said Starr, according to NBC 5.

Firefighters eventually managed to contain the blaze. The occupants of the residence were present at the time of the fire but evacuated the building without injury, per NBC 5.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze. Some construction was taking place at the time of the fire, but no connection between it and the cause of the blaze has been identified.
