Chick-fil-A announced last Friday that it would continue to serve its popular side salad, reversing its previous decision to discontinue the item from its menus.

Initially, the company had decided to discontinue the side salad as part of its effort to simplify its menu, with April 2 slated as the final day it would be available. All that seemed to change after the fast-food restaurant chain received feedback from customers indicating they wanted to keep the salad as an option.

The decision to nix the salad caused a bit of a stir on social media, with some die-hards claiming they were finished with Chick-fil-A. The outpouring of discontent was especially potent on the Twitter page of one San Antonio location.

“Got rid of coleslaw, carrot salad, now this. No enjoyable sides left. Guess I’m done with Chick-Fil-A,” tweeted one disgruntled customer, Chris Charles.

Another mourned the loss and vowed to organize a petition to bring back the low-carb side item:

“The side salad is my all time favorite, my go to, it pairs well with everything. Just to get rid of it like that I’m devastated. I’m rioting, I’m starting petition to keep the side salad. Justice for chick-fil-a side salad!”

Still another voiced opposition on Twitter, taking the opportunity to take a swipe at Chick-fil-A’s Kale Crunch side salad.

“Such a disappointment! Keeping nasty kale instead of a regular salad. #chickfila #disappointed,” posted the Twitter user, Caroline Persinger.

Some, however, seemed to believe it was the kale salad getting the bump, with customer Andrew Christensen tweeting, “Good riddance! I hate Kale. Blech. Bring back the coleslaw!”

With the online outrage piling on, the company opted to spare its customers from having to choose between a larger, pricier salad and kale.

“At Chick-fil-A, our guests come first. Based on feedback, we have decided not to proceed with removing our Side Salad from the menu. We will continue serving the item at participating restaurant locations and hope customers continue to enjoy this menu offering,” said the company in a statement, as KXAN reported.

The Seguin Rd., San Antonio, restaurant tweeted the news last Friday, eliciting a single comment of relief.
