The gunman in the Allen Premium Outlets massacre in May reportedly was shot in the mouth by the officer who stopped him, according to an autopsy by the Collin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
An autopsy of Mauricio Garcia showed the 33-year-old shooter was shot three times. The bullet to the mouth “was immediately fatal,” The Dallas Morning News reported, quoting the autopsy report, which it obtained Tuesday. Garcia was also shot in the right ear and right arm.
The report shows Garcia tested negative for drugs and alcohol but positive for caffeine, and a description of the gunman’s body states he had multiple tattoos, including a swastika.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the shooting at the mall killed eight innocents and injured at least seven more. The killing spree started around 3:30 p.m. on May 6. Garcia was shot and killed less than five minutes later by an Allen police officer, who ran to gunfire when he heard shots.
The video, previously published by The Dallas Express, shows the officer talking with two children and their mother about seat belt safety when more than 20 shots go off in the distance.
The officer, who has not been publicly identified, grabbed a rifle from his car as the shots continued.
“They’re still shooting,” the officer says into his radio. “I’m on foot, I need everybody I got.”
The video ends with the suspect dead on the sidewalk in front of Fatburger.
“The officer recognized the danger, ran toward the gunfire and neutralized the threat — and for his actions, the Allen community is forever grateful,” Allen police Chief Brian Harvey said in a statement published by The Dallas Express.
The mall closed for nearly a month after the incident. It reopened May 31, with some stores staying closed until June, as The Dallas Express reported previously.
