Former state lawmaker Matt Krause recently announced he is running for a seat on the Tarrant County Commissioners Court.
Krause said on Wednesday that he will be running in Precinct 3. The current commissioner holding that seat, Gary Fickes, previously said he would not be running for another term after serving in the position for the last 17 years.
According to a press release, Krause said he was excited about the possibility of representing the precinct.
“Precinct 3 demands a proven conservative leader who can help Tarrant County stay on the right track. I am extremely humbled by the support of outgoing Commissioner Gary Fickes and look forward to carrying on his good work on behalf of the citizens of Precinct 3,” said Krause.
“It is exciting that our campaign has already received incredible support from other trusted elected officials, vigilant grassroots activists, and generous donors. I am excited to announce these supporters to you in the coming days,” he added.
One elected official backing Krause is Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who called Krause a “good friend and strong conservative” in the press release.
“A seasoned constitutional attorney, former state representative, husband, and father, Matt is the true embodiment of what it means to be a Texan,” Cruz said. “We need more leaders like Matt at every level of government to ensure that Texas stays Texas, which is why I am proud to endorse him today.”
After getting elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2013, Krause represented District 93 for 10 years. The district includes parts of Fort Worth and Arlington in Tarrant County.
Krause has run for other offices in the past, including Tarrant County District Attorney and Attorney General of Texas. However, he did not prevail in either race.
While speaking with The Texan, Krause said his two main focuses, if elected, would be lowering property taxes and being a “watchdog” for the county’s finances.
Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare voiced his support for Krause on Twitter, writing, “Matt will make an excellent County Commissioner. Tarrant County and Precinct 3 will be well-served with him in office.”
Krause will be competing against two others for the seat in Precinct 3.
Fort Worth Police Department spokesperson Jimmy Pollozani and former Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Staff David McClelland are also campaigning for the seat, according to The Texan.
