New Mormon Temple To Break Ground in October

A New Mormon temple will soon join the DFW area.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will soon open a new temple in the Fort Worth area. This will be the sixth temple of its kind in the state.

Russell Nelson, president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, originally announced that a temple would be built in Fort Worth at the October 2021 General Conference. Nelson also informed the audience of another 12 temples to be built across the nation and parts of the globe, including Taiwan, Madagascar, Brazil, and Mexico.

Nelson further announced 15 additional temple locations during the April 2023 General Conference in other states, such as California, Missouri, and North Carolina.

Other locations in the state of Texas include Dallas, Lubbock, Houston, and San Antonio.

This new Texas Temple will be a single-story building encompassing about 30,000 square feet on an approximately 9-acre plot of land, according to Church News. The temple will also feature a multilevel tower with arched windows and a domed cupola.

Missionary work in the Fort Worth area originally began almost two centuries ago, in 1843, before Texas had even become a state. Now, the church reports that it currently has over 378,000 across 750 congregations in the state.

“We are so excited because the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is growing so fast,” said Erik Egan, a member of the church in Lewisville, when the temple was first announced, per Church News. “To have a temple in the Fort Worth area will be a great blessing.”

Groundbreaking for the new temple is expected to take place on October 26. Elder Jose L. Alonso, first counselor in the North America Southwest Area presidency, will preside over the event.

Another temple in Modesto, California, will also have a groundbreaking event in October of this year, with Elder Gary B. Sabin presiding over the event.

Another temple will be brought to the Prosper area, but it is still in the planning stage.
