A local family and the Denton Police Department need the public’s help to find a teen who has been missing for three weeks.

Katy Throneberry, 16, was last seen June 9 at a Cracker Barrel in the 4000 block of Interstate 35, just off the highway in Denton.

Surveillance video showed Throneberry leaving voluntarily in her parents’ car with someone police described as a taller male, according to a news release on the department’s Facebook page.

The Dallas Police Department found the blue Crown Victoria abandoned in downtown Dallas on June 10. As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Dallas’ downtown area suffers from a serious crime problem — likely in part due to a shortage of some 500 officers. Far more crimes are reported than in Fort Worth’s downtown, where a dedicated unit and private security guards patrol.

According to police, Throneberry is 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes. She occasionally wears glasses and is reported to look very different without them. She was last seen wearing a brown Nintendo shirt, knee-length blue jean shorts, and glasses.

Denton detectives said they do not suspect foul play. Throneberry is currently listed as a “runaway,” which police cautioned was simply the legal term for a missing minor who apparently left voluntarily instead of being clearly taken. Classifying Throneberry as such also, police explained on their social media page, allows officials to charge anyone currently providing a home or shelter to Throneberry with harboring a runaway, a Class A misdemeanor.

Throneberry’s family and Denton police implored the public for help regarding the whereabouts of the missing teen.

“Katy’s family and our department want to see Katy located safe,” the department’s post reads.

Denton police are asking anyone with information about Throneberry’s disappearance to contact Detective Morgan at 940-349-8470.

The Dallas Express reached out to the Denton Police Department for additional information and comment but did not receive a response by press time.
