Some North Texans may see a stormy beginning to the weekend.
The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has predicted scattered thunderstorms to return to the region on May 19, accompanying the arrival of a cold front in the late afternoon. Some of these storms could be severe, with the potential for damaging winds.
Other hazards such as flooding, hail, and even tornados are possible, though the chances are low.
However, storm coverage is not expected to be widespread, with only 40-60% of the metroplex seeing precipitation.
Steve Fano with the NWS in Fort Worth told The Dallas Express that any potential severe storms are anticipated to arrive between 4-9 p.m.
“The best window of time is during the late afternoon into the mid-evening hours for any severe weather, and then any rain or storms that we could possibly have overnight tonight into tomorrow morning would be non-severe,” said Fano.
Following behind this system, the NWS expects cooler temperatures through the weekend.
“High temperatures tomorrow are only going be about 79 degrees — 10 degrees cooler tomorrow — and those cooler temperatures will probably stick with us,” said Fano.
Fano said that temperatures will begin to rise back to normal, approaching the 90s at the beginning of the following week.
Alongside these rising temperatures, daily rain and storm chances will persist across the region next week. The chance of precipitation will be relatively low for most of the week, with the greatest potential for rain showers on May 23.
