Slightly cooler temperatures and rain chances are expected to return this holiday weekend in North Texas.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth is forecasting high temperatures will drop below the 100-degree mark this weekend, offering some relief from the excessive heat that has plagued DFW over the past week.
Temperatures across the metroplex will be “more tolerable” over the long holiday weekend, the NWS said.
Sarah Barnes, a meteorologist with the NWS in Fort Worth, told The Dallas Express that the organization is not expecting to issue any heat advisories in the next few days.
“We’re looking at maybe just very slightly cooler temperatures than we’ve seen recently,” said Barnes. “We should generally remain below 100 degrees over the weekend and into the Fourth of July holiday,” she continued.
Barnes said that while ambient temperatures will remain below 100 degrees, trending toward the high 90s, heat indexes will remain in the triple digits. Overnight lows will range from the upper 70s to the low 80s throughout the next seven days.
In addition, scattered storms are expected to return over the weekend, with the greatest likelihood of storms on July 2. The NWS predicts that a cluster of storms could make its way into the region early on July 1.
The potential for storms is expected to persist into the following week through Thursday. Despite rain chances being relatively low –about a 25% chance or lower — each day next week, people taking part in outside activities are advised to remain weather aware as conditions develop.
Barnes said that due to elevated temperatures persisting, any storms that move into the region will be accompanied by gusty winds.
“Coverage won’t be particularly widespread, but you’ll want to keep an eye on the weather if you have any outdoor plans, which I’m sure many people do,” said Barnes.
